Page Speed can affect both users and search engines. When a site is slow, people not only notice, they leave. According to Gomez.com almost 50% of people click back to the search engine results page if a site doesn’t load in 2 seconds or less. Gonzo. And if you are doing Pay Per Click, that’s 50% of clicks you have paid for that aren’t even seeing your site. Ouch!! What’s that flushing sound?
When search engines find a slow site, they factor that in when considering how high you rank for keywords.
To add insult to injury, when a visitor quickly clicks back to the results page, its an indication to the search engine that your site wasn’t a good match with the visitor’s search keyword. So the search engines are getting the message that some of your very best keywords aren’t relevant to your site, and that will hurt your rankings for that keyword. Ouch again.
